How to maintain your mattress? Tips for a longer lifespan

A good mattress is an investment in your sleep and health. To enjoy optimal comfort for as long as possible, it is important to take proper care of your mattress. With the right maintenance, your mattress stays clean, hygienic, and retains its supportive properties. In this blog, we share essential tips to extend the lifespan of your mattress.

Team Revor

1. Use a mattress protector

A mattress protector is the first line of defense against dirt, moisture, and dust mites. Preferably choose a breathable and washable protector, such as one with moisture-regulating or antibacterial properties. This helps keep your mattress fresh and hygienic for longer.

2. Regular airing

Your mattress needs ventilation to remove moisture and stay fresh. Leave your bed open for a while each morning before making it. This prevents the buildup of heat and moisture, which can reduce the growth of bacteria and mold.

3. Rotating and flipping

To prevent sagging and extend the lifespan of your mattress, it is important to rotate and flip it regularly. This means:

  • Every three months: Rotate your mattress 180 degrees (head end to foot end).
  • Every six months: Flip your mattress completely (if it is double-sided).

Note: Some mattresses, such as those with an integrated topper or single-sided comfort layers, do not need to be flipped. In that case, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

4. Vacuuming to remove dust and allergens

Dust and skin flakes can accumulate in your mattress, creating an ideal environment for dust mites. Vacuum your mattress every few months with a vacuum cleaner equipped with a HEPA filter to reduce allergens.

5. Remove stains immediately

If an accident happens, remove stains as soon as possible with a mild cleaning agent and a slightly damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or excessive amounts of water, as this can seep into the mattress and cause mold.

6. Optimal support with a good bed frame

A mattress performs best on a well-ventilated bed base. Ensure that your bed frame or slatted base is suitable for your mattress and provides sufficient support. A poor foundation can shorten the lifespan of your mattress and negatively affect sleep comfort.

7. Avoid excessive stress

Jumping on your mattress or placing excessive weight on it for prolonged periods can damage the internal structure. Try to avoid this as much as possible to maintain the shape and support of your mattress.

8. Replace your mattress on time

Although proper maintenance significantly extends the lifespan of a mattress, replacement is eventually necessary. In general, it is recommended to replace a mattress every 8 to 10 years, depending on usage and material quality.

By properly maintaining your mattress, you ensure a hygienic and fresh sleeping environment while also extending the lifespan and comfort of your mattress. With simple actions like regular airing, vacuuming, and using a mattress protector, your mattress stays in top condition. At Revor, we understand the importance of a good night's sleep and offer high-quality mattresses that guarantee optimal comfort for years to come.
